PREGO REFLECTION ON TODAYS GOSPEL:
I come to my place of prayer and still myself, becoming
aware of God’s presence in and around me. I read the text slowly. Perhaps I can
place myself in the scene, maybe being part of the crowd, or one of Jesus'
disciples, drawing near the town gate and surrounding the grieving widow. I feel
the sorrow and the sad situation of the widow. Maybe I too am mourning some
loss and can identify with her. I look at Jesus. He makes the first move
towards the woman. He is full of compassion—speaking to her and actually
touching the bier, contrary to all Jewish custom. What touches my heart in this
story? Jesus compassion... His attention to the poor and needy... His mercy
that over-rides all other considerations... Or something that connects with my
own life... I speak to the Lord of this. I look at the mother. In her grief and
poverty she is helpless but open to receive. Does this speak to me? Can I too
give praise to God for his goodness? Or perhaps I can just remain silent before
my compassionate God. I quietly end my prayer thanking God for this time spent
with him.

WEEKLY
RAMBLINGS:
I'm sitting in the dining room of a B&B - Bective Mill
- just between Trim and Navan in County Meath.
I arrived safely yesterday afternoon and collected my car and then
headed off to Navan and on the way saw the sign for Bective Abbey. Fr 'Smiley'
McCormack said recently that Fr Mick Flynn had been buried from Navan and his
grave was near an Abbey somewhere nearby. Unfortunately, it is doesn't seem as
if this Abbey is where he's buried.
Today I'm heading off to Navan and catching up with the
local clergy and then celebrating Mass tonight with a family as they remember
the anniversary of a sister and my friend who died 8 years ago today.
After a few days rest I'll be heading for Dublin and Howth
(slightly north of Dublin) where I'll be staying with a friend I met in
Jerusalem 3 years ago. Then early next week I'll be heading off to the USA and
visiting the Church of the Nativity in Baltimore.
Keep well and visit the blogspot site
(http://holidaysjune2016.blogspot.com.au) to see what has been happening as
I'll be updating that page as often as I can.

Prayer to the
Sacred Heart of Jesus
O most holy
heart of Jesus,
Fountain of
every blessing,
I adore you, I
love you,
And with lively
sorrow for my sins
I offer you
this poor heart of mine.
Make me humble,
patient, pure and wholly obedient
To your will.
Grant, good Jesus
that I may live in you and for you.
Protect me in
the midst of danger.
Comfort me in my
afflictions.
Give me health
of body,
Assistance in
my temporal needs,
Your blessing on
all that I do,
And
the grace of a holy death.
Amen.
