PREGO REFLECTION ON THE GOSPEL:
After coming to quiet in my usual way, I read the Gospel text attentively. I notice that in this text too, much is said about the Law.
If it helps, I may want to bring back to mind my reflections on the Collect and the old Opening Prayer.
I may not find it easy to connect with murderers but I probably do not have to search my conscience too far to find moments of anger with myself, with others.
I ponder the incidents which come to mind. How have I dealt with them?
I speak to the Lord about those times in my own words.
Jesus understands human nature. My thoughts and my unkind words are often the way I break God’s law of love. I spend some time reflecting on how I have been lacking in love and compassion towards myself, my family, the people I meet.
To conclude my time of prayer I may want to tell the Lord in my own words how sorry I am for these times. I listen to him in the silence of my heart .......

BAPTISM:

We welcome and congratulate.......

who is being baptised this weekend.

FROM FR MIKE:

A very big thank you to all those who were able to join Fr Augustine and me last Friday evening for the 1st of our Open Houses – thanks also to all those who rang and apologised for not being able to make it. There were over 80 people there and the evening was very successful with people from almost all corners of the Parish able to join us. I hope to be able to organise another couple during the year – suggested dates (all Fridays) 2nd May & 1st August (both in the Community Room, Sacred Heart Church, Ulverstone) and 7th Nov back at 90 Stewart Street.

Our Lenten Discussion Groups are starting shortly – we have the material, now all we need are people to join groups in each of the Centres. If you would like to be part of the Program – You Have Set Us Free – from Evangelisation Brisbane then please complete the form at the back of the Church, indicating if you are prepared to be a leader or host but more importantly be part of the program.

At the beginning of the following week we will be holding Information Evenings for Families with children who wish to be prepared for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and Eucharist. Information has been in the Newsletter these past two weeks – please ensure that other members of your families for whom this may be important are aware of the details.

Until next week, take care on the roads and in your homes,

Fr Mike

CHRISTIAN MEDITATION:
Do you seek a regular short time of silent prayer to help you get through your day/week? If so, you may like to join a small group of people in our parish who are committed to the form of prayer known as Christian Meditation.  This prayer is based on Scripture (such as Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God) and follows the teachings of John Main osb (www.wccm.org.au). It is about experiencing the presence of God at the centre of our being.
Where?  Emmaus House, 88 Stewart St, Devonport
When?  Every Wednesday - 7 pm - 8 pm no booking required.
What do you do?  We have a short reading or listen to a talk on Christian Meditation, then we spend 30 minutes in silent prayer and conclude with a prayer or song (usually about 45 minutes in total). Why not come along and experience this form of prayer?  All welcome.
SPIRITUALITY IN THE COFFEE SHOPPE:   Got something on your mind?  Come along for a round the table  chat about issues affecting your everyday life..   Relaxed atmosphere, good company.   All welcome! 10.30am - 12 noon Monday 24th February.    More information: Phone 6428:3095    email: rsjforth@bigpond.net.au

ST VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY ASSIST A STUDENT:
Each year the St Vincent de Paul Society in Tasmania invites parishioners to support students with their education in Papua New Guinea and needy students in other Asia-Pacific countries. For less than twenty cents a day you will help one student go to school for a year. One of the programs strongest and most attractive features is that the administration costs, funded by the Society, are kept to an absolute minimum. Nothing is deducted from your donation of $70. All of this money goes towards the students educational needs including books, uniforms and compulsory school fees.
Assist a Student forms are available at the back of the church for those wishing to support a student.
On the weekend 22nd/23rd February representatives on behalf of St Vincent de Paul will promote this worthy cause at each Mass Centre.

SACRAMENTAL ROGRAM:
Families with children in Grade 3 or above are invited to participate in our family-centred, parish-based and school-supported Sacramental Program to prepare to celebrate the sacraments of RECONCILIATION, CONFIRMATION AND EUCHARIST in April and June next year.

The good news is that it is not necessarily expensive to reduce risk and strengthen vulnerable communities’ resilience to disasters such as earthquakes, droughts or floods, particularly in comparison to the cost of reconstruction. Those most affected are able to take charge, reduce their own vulnerabilities, and often rebuild homes and communities to better standards. The Catholic Church, through its international development agencies, plays a transformational role in building community capacity to prepare for and respond to disasters.”

Evangelii Gaudium

‘In every activity of evangelization, the primacy always belongs to God, who has called us to cooperate with him and who leads us on by the power of his Spirit. The real newness is the newness which God himself mysteriously brings about and inspires, provokes, guides and accompanies in a thousand ways.’

-  Para 12, from Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, Pope Francis, Nov. 24, 2013

Proper name for the Sacrament of Penance/Reconciliation
It is called the sacrament of Penance, the sacrament of Reconciliation, the sacrament of Forgiveness, the sacrament of Confession, and the sacrament of Conversion.

-          From: Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church: Paragraph 296

Saint of the Week – St Wulfric (February 20)

Wulfric (d. 1154) was a hermit and miracle worker. Born at Compton Martin, near Bristol, England, he became a priest and was excessively materialistic and worldly. After meeting with a beggar, he underwent a personal conversion and became a hermit at Haselbury; Somerset, England. For his remaining years, he devoted himself to rigorous austerities and was known for his miracles and prophecies. While he was never formally canonized, Wulfric was a very popular saint during the Middle Ages, and his tomb was visited by many pilgrims.

Catholic Response on the Environment
‘Pure Gift’ is an animation of a 'legacy letter' written by Luke Edwards to his three young sons. The ‘Pure Gift’ resource package offers a range of prayerful exercises and contemplative reflections based on themes contained within the animated clip. The material is intended to assist in the growth and understanding of the user's emerging ecological consciousness. The exercises it contains are designed to ‘stimulate moments of insight and transformation, sustaining the movement for ecological conversion at a personal and communal level’.

Words of wisdom
This week, Bishop Geoffrey Jarrett marks the 13th anniversary of his Episcopal ordination as the Bishop of Lismore Diocese. We wish him and the Church in Lismore every blessing and provide this quote, from an interview he did with The Catholic Weekly shortly after his appointment:
‘This relationship between the bishop and his priests is the most important role [of a bishop].’

I have come that you may have life and have it to the full.  John 10:10
